While the franchise has expanded on its successful elements, it hasn’t shaken off some of the problems with the old regime. On the surface, Tropico 5 sticks pretty close to the formula. You have to pander, bribe and outright oppress the various factions of your island just enough to keep a death-grip on power. Instead, you are in charge of a small banana republic.
